Originally from the Ottawa area, Dr. Josée attended high school in Plantagenet from 2001 to 2005. She completed her Bachelor’s degree in Health Sciences with honours from the University of Ottawa in June 2009 and pursued her Doctorate degree in Chiropractic from Life University in Marietta, Georgia, where she graduated magna cum laude in March 2013.

Dr. Josée has invested much of her free time, as a chiropractic student and as a chiropractor, to furthering her knowledge of chiropractic, nutrition, and wellness. (See Dr. Josée’s curriculum vitae for a list of her continuing education.) She also completed her yoga teacher’s training in August 2013, and is now a Certified Yoga Instructor.

Dr. Josée has been a chiropractor in good standing with the College of Chiropractors of Ontario since May 2013, a member of the International Chiropractic Pediatric Association (ICPA) since May 2018, as well as a member of the Alliance for Chiropractic since May 2019. Her love for chiropractic and wellness care is driven by the belief that the body has the innate ability to heal and self-regulate when no nerve interference is present, and within an environment that is genetically compatible with health.

Since becoming a mom, Dr. Josée’s interest in prenatal and pediatric chiropractic care has grown and she has chosen to focus more of her time caring for this population. She is certified in the Webster Technique and is currently enrolled in the ICPA’s Certification Program, a 200-hour series that specifically focuses on prenatal and pediatric chiropractic care.

When not at the Optimal Health Centre caring for patients, Dr. Josée enjoys spending time with her family. Her hobbies include cooking, running, and yoga.

Dr. Josée is trained in multiple adjusting techniques in order to serve your needs. After a thorough examination, she will determine the best technique for you, since techniques may differ based on the age, physical condition, and personal preference of the patient.

Techniques Utilized:

  • Diversified Adjustments: Diversified adjustments are the conventional manual adjustments that chiropractic is often known for. During such a treatment, you might hear a “popping” or “cracking” sound. Rest assured that this is not caused by your bones cracking, but rather by a release of built-up pressure in your joints due to the noted misalignment or restriction of movement.
  • Thompson Technique: The Thompson Technique utilizes leg checks to analyze the spine and “drop work” to help assist in the adjustment. The use of assisted drop work provides a gentler technique, often requiring that less force be applied when performing an adjustment.
  • Activator Technique™: The Activator Technique™ allows your chiropractor to adjust you without any twisting or bending of your spine. This technique utilizes an instrument to perform the adjustment. This approach is gentle and often used with people that suffer from osteoporosis (decreased bone density), young children, or others who may present with a contraindication to more conventional approaches.
  • Webster Technique: The Webster Technique is a specific chiropractic sacral analysis and adjustment. The goal of the adjustment is to reduce the effects of sacral subluxation/sacroiliac joint dysfunction. In doing so, neuro-biomechanical function in the pelvis is facilitated. Sacral subluxation may contribute to difficult labour for the mother (dystocia), caused by inadequate uterine function, pelvic contraction, and baby malpresentation. Correction of sacral subluxation may have a positive effect on all of these causes of dystocia.
  • Pediatric Adjustment Techniques: Due to its spinal fragility and anatomical differences, the spine of an infant, baby, or young child should be adjusted differently than the spine of an adult. Techniques used for pediatric adjustments may include sustained contact, craniosacral therapy, the use of an instrument such as the Activator Technique, light drop work, and/or soft tissue release. These specific techniques are safe and gentle, even for newborns.
  • Extremity Work: Although chiropractors tend to focus on the spine due to its interrelation with the nervous system, any joint in our body may misalign or not move properly. Dr. Josée is trained to assess and adjust all joints in your body on an as-needed basis to help relieve pain and regain proper function.
  • Muscle Work: Because muscles attach to bones, Dr. Josée incorporates muscle work as needed to help you get the best results as quickly as possible. To do so, she uses a variety of techniques from manual release, to instrument muscle work, PNF (proprioceptive neuromuscular facilitation), and recommendations for stretching and strengthening exercises that can be done at home.
